We had the opportunity to take a horseback trip up into the mountains. Kind of expensive, I think we paid $45 per person for a full day, or if I've convinced you by now to my way of thinking (about 30 beers). The highlight was a swim in a swimming hole half way through the trip. It was a hole that was pretty deep. The natives were jumping from a tree about 40 feet above the water. Of course the only thing you had to watch out for were the floating brown logs, as rivers are the primary sewer system of the poor in the mountains. But hey, you only live once.

(A picture of the swimming hole, with Johnnie swinging into the water. If you notice the blue mark on the tree. That is the area that some of the natives were diving from. In case you were wondering, no I'm not that brave either.)

(One of the guides thought he'd play a joke on the tour organizer. She had gone swimming and they took her pants and put them on the donkey and rode around for a while. But, if you want a good horse tour, talk to Joyce at Playa Dorada, she'll cut you a deal. (That is if you can deal with her rough Bronx attitude, but hey, "We love ya Joyce!"))
