Dominican Republic Vacation |
| Playa Grande: Obviously one of the most beautiful beaches in the Dominican Republic. It's a little away from the resort areas, so you have to have a car to get there. But, the trip is worth it. The beach is very quiet and secluded. In fact, there is no running water, or electricity. All the food is brought in every day, and ice brought to keep sodas and beer cool (good idea in my mind.) Best bet is to contact one of the locals early, rent a chair for a buck or two, and get them to bring you a cold beer. They'll bring it right out on the beach to you. Good thing that doesn't happen in the states, or I would have no liver function left. You can also keep an eye on the local fishermen they will bring their catches right on the beach, and you can buy any of it and have a local fix it for you for a very reasonable price. I think we paid 55 pesos (or about $4) for the fried fish that we ate, that was probably our best meal we had on the island. Of course Johnnie wasn't really happy that we couldn't get a hamburger there, but I think it's better than the alternative which could have been E-Coli or worse, as they have no refrigeration. Oh, and don't buy anything here, as you can bargain for much better prices in Sosua.
